Hi, I only drive short distances on familiar roads. I am blessed to have my husband as my chauffeur. That being said, it is a difficult lose of independence that I’m trying to adjust to. Luckily there are alternatives like Uber and rides offered through local social services.

I had that problem until I got cataract surgery and it removed all of the stigmatism form my eyesight..

I hear you Walt and I’m glad you recognize driving as a privilege, but the reality of it is that as we age, with or without eyesight problems driving becomes more problematic because of slowed reaction time and other issues that make us a danger to others. My husband are 83 can no longer drive due to a medication he is in and his impaired mobility from a stroke. Now I am facing reduced vision and the possibility of not being able to drive either. It’s a hard pill to swallow but one we will all have to face someday. That’s when you recognize that driving really IS a privilege not a right
